The HAN Housing Office arranges student housing at locations in Arnhem and Nijmegen. This service is primarily for exchange students and non-EU/EEA students for a period of 1 semester to 1 year. Non-Dutch and EU/EEA students can apply for a place on the waiting list.

HAN Housing Office arranges accommodation primarily for non-EU/EEA students and exchange students who are under 30. Rental contracts are for 1 semester or 1 year. After that, students need to find their own accommodation. EU/EEA students also need to arrange their own accommodation.

Please note: Finding accommodation in Arnhem and Nijmegen is very difficult at the moment due to a country-wide housing shortage. So, make sure you start your search early! We recommend at least 3 months before the start of your studies.

Type of rooms through HAN Housing

Most student rooms have a private bedroom and shared facilities, such as kitchen, shower and toilet. Our rooms are not suited for families. Also, pets are not allowed. No exceptions can be made.

Housing for non-EU students

Are you an exchange student or starting your degree at HAN in February? Your accommodation will be arranged for your 1st semester. Are you starting your degree at HAN in September? Your accommodation will be arranged for your 1st year. After that you need to arrange your own accommodation. Please note that non-EU/EEA students who choose to pay the partial financial guarantee excluding accommodation have to arrange and pay for their own accommodation separately.

Housing for EU students

Are you a non-Dutch, EU/EEA student? Start your search early. We recommend at least 3 months before the start of your studies. You can also contact the HAN Housing Office by email for a place on their waiting list (based on first come, first served).

Registration requirements

To rent a room, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be enrolled as a student of HAN University of Applied Sciences for a bachelor/master or exchange program.
  • You must have a nationality other than Dutch.
  • Non-EU/EEA and master students who have completed the financial transactions of the financial guarantee (including the accommodation fee) will have a reserved room. The deadline for payment is mentioned on the invoice. Housing cannot be guaranteed after this deadline.
  • You must be under 30 years of age.

Note:  non-Dutch, EU/EEA students who do not have a guaranteed room can contact the HAN Housing Office by email for a place on the waiting list (based on first come, first served).

Book your room

Meet all the requirements mentioned above? Paid the accommodation fee? Then you’ll have a guaranteed room through the HAN Housing Office.

The SSH&, the student housing association of Nijmegen and Arnhem, has created the booking system: Book your Room. This allows you to choose your own room. After your Financial Guarantee has been paid and processed, HAN Housing Office will send you an email with a voucher code. With this voucher code you can book your own room. This also counts for exchange students.

Are you an exchange student in Arnhem? At the moment, you can't use the Book your Room system. You will be randomly placed in an available room in Arnhem at the Bergstraat or the Romerselaan.

What if you don’t want a room through the HAN Housing Office?
You get a refund of the accommodation fee after you arrive in the Netherlands. You need to have a Dutch bank account for the refund.

Arriving after hours?

Arriving on the weekend or on a weekday  after 16:30? Then you have to book a hotel room and wait until the next working day. Please consider this when booking your flight.

Deadline for cancellation

To cancel your room please send an email to HAN.HousingOffice@han.nl. Make sure you cancel on time! If you don’t you might have to pay a cancellation fee.

The deadline for cancelling your room is:

1st semester  15 July
2nd semester  1 January

We look forward to welcoming you as a student at HAN!
