HAN Housing

Are you paying the financial guarantee including accommodation? Then you’ll get a guaranteed room through HAN Housing. Are you starting in September? Your rental contract will be for 1 academic year. Are you starting in February? Your rental contract will be for 1 semester. When your contract is up, you will need to find your own student housing.

In principle you need to find your own accommodation. You can go on the HAN Housing waiting list. Rooms are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Also, check out the info on finding your own student housing.

Exchange student = a student from one of our partner universities who comes to HAN on an exchange for 1 semester. Are you an exchange student? HAN Housing will arrange a room for you for 1 semester. Either from August to January or from February to July.

HAN Housing is for international (non-Dutch) students. Check out the information about living in Arnhem or Nijmegen on the Dutch website.

HAN Housing is for students coming to the Netherlands for the first time. Since you already live in the Netherlands, you need to find your own accommodation. Check out the info on finding your own student housing.

To rent a room, you must meet the following requirements: 

• You are enrolled as a student of HAN University of Applied Sciences for a bachelor, master or exchange program. 
• You have a nationality other than Dutch.
• You are under 30 years of age.

No. Most of the student rooms have a private bedroom and shared facilities, such as kitchen, shower and toilet. So our rooms are not suited for families. Also, pets are not allowed. No exceptions can be made.

HAN Housing arranges your accommodation for 1 or 2 semesters depending on your situation.

After this period you need to arrange your own accommodation. Are you paying the partial financial guarantee excluding accommodation? Then the above does not apply to you. You have to arrange and pay for your own accommodation separately.

Meet all the requirements mentioned above? Paid the accommodation fee? Then you’ll have a guaranteed room through the HAN Housing Office.  

The SSH&, the student housing association of Nijmegen and Arnhem, has created the booking system: Book your Room. This allows you to choose your own room. After your Financial Guarantee has been paid and processed, HAN Housing Office will send you an email with a voucher code. With this voucher code you can book your own room. This also counts for exchange students.

What if you don’t want a room through the HAN Housing Office?  
You get a refund of the accommodation fee after you arrive in the Netherlands. You need to have a Dutch bank account for the refund.

Arriving on the weekend or on a weekday after 16:30? Then you have to book a hotel room and wait until the next working day. Please consider this when booking your flight. 

To cancel your room please send an email to  HAN.HousingOffice@han.nl. Make sure you cancel on time! If you don’t you might have to pay a cancellation fee.
