Are you paying the financial guarantee including accommodation? Then you’ll be eligible for a room through HAN Housing. Are you starting in September? Your rental contract will be for 1 academic year. Are you starting in February? Your rental contract will be for 1 semester. When your contract is up, you will need to find your own student housing.
Exchange student = a student from one of our partner universities who comes to HAN on an exchange for 1 or 2 semesters. Exchange students are eligible for a room during your entire stay if you enroll on time. You will receive more information about housing after your enrollment at HAN.
In principle you need to find your own accommodation. You can apply to the HAN Housing waiting list, but this does not guarantee getting a room. Rooms are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Also, check out the info on finding your own student housing.

The rental company we work with, SSH&, has created the booking system: Book your Room. This allows you to choose and book your own room. After your Financial Guarantee has been paid and processed or your application has been processed if you are an exchange student, HAN Housing Office will send you an email with a voucher code. With this voucher code you can book your own room.
Make sure you use the voucher code as soon as possible as the longer you wait, the fewer options you will have. You have one week to choose a room. Your booking and payment need to be fully completed within two weeks after receiving the voucher. If you take longer than 2 weeks to complete the booking we reserve the right to revoke your voucher and assign the room to another student.
Our other housing partners may operate in different ways but we will inform you about it when sending an offer.

You booked a room though HAN Housing office but have decided to cancel your application? Or you found different accommodation on your own?
To cancel your room, please send an email to Housing@han.nl. Make sure you cancel on time! If you don’t you might have to pay a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee amount is determined by what date we can fill your cancelled room.
The deadline for free cancellation is:
Fall semester 15 July Spring semester 15 December We work with special short stay rental contracts for a fixed period. This means that the start and end date of your contract cannot be changed.
You can only terminate your rental agreement after the move-in date if there is a replacement tenant who is willing to take over the lease of the room. Finding a replacement tenant however, is not possible during the first three and last two months of your rental agreement.
Should you need to vacate your room due to unforeseen (medical) circumstances, your travel insurance may be able to cover some expenses. In these cases you need to contact your insurance company for more information.
Arriving on the weekend or on a weekday after 16:30? Then you have to book a hotel room and wait until the next working day. Please consider this when booking your flight.
Yes! You will have to give them a signed consent form to pick up the key for you. The person picking up the key will also have to show ID. Would you like to arrange for someone else to pick up the key, please send an email to Housing@han.nl.
No. Each student will receive a voucher to book one room. If you wish to live with your friend(s) you could try to book rooms in the same apartment once you receive vouchers. Please consider however that studying abroad is meant to broaden your horizons… So keep an open mind to living with and meeting new people!
No. The landlords we work with do not allow for more than one person to live in the rooms. You also cannot use common spaces to have family/friends stay with you. Pets are also not allowed in the rooms. No exceptions can be made.
The rooms will have a bed with mattress, table and chair, and a closet for your things. Soft furnishings such as blankets, bed linens and towels are not included. Kitchen utensils and dinnerware are also not included. Please see this page for information on where to buy these items after arrival.
SSH& offers the possibility to buy a bed linen package as an additional service to add during the booking process. All the items you order will automatically be placed in your room before you move in.
We really cannot say. It depends on the number of students that apply to our different programs and to the number of students on the waiting list. It is advised to start looking for a room yourself, the earlier, the better. If we do have rooms available, we will contact you in the beginning of June (Sep intake)/December (Feb intake).
No, if you enroll in a timely manner you should be able to receive a room as part of your program.
You can indicate on the application form that you are interested in renting a room provided by Han Housing.
The link of the application form for the (Erasmus) exchange will be sent to you by either the exchange program coordinator of the HAN University of Applied Sciences or the contact person at your own university in due time.
When the deadline has passed, HAN Housing will be in contact with you about how to book a room using the booking system around mid-June/December.
To finish the booking of a room, you will need to pay a down payment. This down payment will be used to cover the rent of the first 2.5 months. You do not need to pay the rent for the whole semester upfront.
You can take a look on our website to get a general idea of what the buildings and rooms are like: Student Housing | HAN University of Applied Sciences
If you have not found a room by August 1st (Sep intake) / January 1st (Feb intake), we advise you not to come to the Netherlands. Due to the stress on the housing market it is very unlikely that you will find a room within a couple of weeks.
Unfortunately, extensions of short-stay housing contracts have now been forbidden by Dutch law. In addition, all of our rooms will be needed for the new incoming students and therefore we cannot offer any extensions.
Please take a look at all the information listed on our website. You will also find a list of websites that offer rooms for rent.
Please be aware that we have no connections with the people/agencies who place the ads on the websites and Facebook pages.
Use your common sense: if it is too good to be true, it usually is. Please check out the tips about scamming on our website.
