Master Engineering Systems Full-time
The program starts 1 September 2022 and 1 September 2023
Ready to take your engineering skills to the next level? HAN’s Master in Engineering Systems gives you the know-how to develop the systems of the future. Systems that are crucial in a wide range of fields: automotive, sustainable energy, control and embedded systems.

Engineering Systems: quick facts
Tracks within the master engineering systems
Choose from the following tracks:
-
Control Systems engineering
Control systems are a part of everyday life. They’re used in robotic applications. In steering and tracking devices. Renewable energy installations. The list goes on. This master degree gives you the ins and outs of advanced control systems and techniques. Work anywhere in the technical sector!
-
Automotive Systems engineering
Our views on mobility are changing. Hybrid and fully electrical vehicles are now a common sight. The technology that powers them is developing faster than ever, as are new technologies like hydrogen power. Keen to be part of these developments? Apply for this cutting-edge automotive master track!
-
Embedded Systems
Complex industrial processes require advanced solutions. Learn all about these in the Embedded Systems track. You get the skills to model complex dynamic systems. To design and test software. And you become an expert on digital techniques and microcontrollers.
-
Sustainable Energy
Sustainable and renewable energy systems are crucial to the energy transition. Engineers are needed to develop and fine-tune these systems. Want to master up your engineering skills and specialize in this rewarding new field? Sign up for the Sustainable Energy master track at HAN!
-
Smart Manufacturing (under development)
The Smart Manufacturing track is currently being developed. It will be offered from September 2023.
-
Lean Engineering (no new enrollments)
The Lean Engineering track within the Master in Engineering Systems will no longer be offered as of September 2022. Current students can complete their program and earn their master degree (MSc).
Program: What do you learn?
This engineering system master program gives you the fundamentals of modelling and control systems. It also gives you lots of options to specialize within the engineering field. You then follow modules specific to your chosen master track. Finally, you get to apply your knowledge and skills in a major project. The setting? Either industry or research.
Careers: What can you do with this degree?
As a graduate of the Master in Engineering Systems, you are able to apply research to solve complex problems, for the development of innovations that meet the needs of the market and/or society, as opposed to conducting only academic research. You have thorough knowledge and skills in the area of Engineering Systems along with an international orientation. This is developed through internationally oriented modules and teaching methods, an international student population and close contacts with globally operating businesses.
Looking back: Online Open Day
The Online Open Day was on Saturday 26 March. Did you miss it? No worries! You can watch the videos of the talkshows that were recorded on the day. They give info on admissions, visas and immigration, student life and much more.
#Ask a student
In these videos students answer questions about the Master in Engineering Systems at HAN University of Applied Sciences.
Study in part-time?
Want to study in part-time? Follow the modules at your own pace? You can if you are from the EU/EEA or have a valid residence permit for the Netherlands. You also need to be working in the field. The part-time program takes 3 years to complete.
The Dutch way of learning
The atmosphere in a Dutch classroom is quite informal and your lecturers are easy to talk to. In fact, at HAN you’re seen as a partner in the learning process. Class sizes are small and your lecturers encourage you to actively participate in class. To ask questions. To give your own opinion. They also stimulate you to be creative. And to discover things for yourself.
Why study in Holland?
Holland has a large population of international students so you won’t feel alone. In fact, 1 in 10 students is an international student. Why do so many international students come here? Because Holland has excellent, affordable higher education. It also has a thriving economy (18th in the world) so there are plenty of job opportunities. What’s more, the Dutch are open-minded and almost everyone speaks English.
Discover the city of Arnhem
Arnhem is the green and bustling capital of the province of Gelderland. With a population of around 160,000, the city has plenty to offer. Whether you’re into fashion or history, museums or pubs, concerts or nightclubs. And with its lovely green surroundings, you can also enjoy nature at its best. Safe and friendly student cities are just one of the 7 reasons to study at HAN.
