For students, HAN staff and external participants. You want to learn advanced English. And significantly improve your career prospects by earning an internationally recognized certificate. Your proficiency level is B2 at the start of the course. We assess this with an intake test.

This course will help you improve your:

speaking and conversation skills
reading skills
listening skills
writing skills
grammar and vocabulary
understanding of the cultural differences between the Netherlands and England

This course helps you prepare for taking the exam developed by Cambridge University, the leading language and culture institute in England. This exam is administered in the Netherlands by the British Council.

The Cambridge Advanced English course (C1) starts on 27 February 2024. It takes place on Tuesdays from 18:30-21:00 at the HAN campus in Nijmegen. The next course start date is in September 2024. The course will then take place at the HAN campus in Arnhem.

Please note: Are you from outside the EU? HAN does not arrange student visas for candidates of our language courses. You need to arrange your own visa/permit if you wish to stay in the Netherlands.
The course consists of contact hours and self-study hours. The contact hours are mostly intensive training in various speaking situations. During the weekly sessions, you also receive feedback from your trainer on the written assignments you completed at home.
You will receive the following textbook at the 1st session: Ready for Advanced 4th Edition Student's Book with Key Pack. This book is not included in the course fee.
The Cambridge exam is optional and is administered at a location in the Netherlands. The exam consists of 4 parts: reading and use of English, writing, listening and speaking.

After the course you receive a certificate of participation from HAN Language Center.

Did you pass the CAE exam as well? You will receive an internationally recognized and highly coveted certificate. This general English qualification shows that your English is of a standard expected of a professional business person or an undergraduate university student.

You are now a competent language user at the C1 level. That means:

you understand long, complex texts

you recognize and understand the implicit meaning of these texts

you can write clear, structured and detailed texts on complicated issues

you are a spontaneous discussion partner who does not struggle to find the right expressions

and you can hold your own in social, academic and professional settings
