Are you planning to work or study in an English-speaking country? Are some of your lectures in English? Then it’s important to be able to speak and write in proper English. Boost your English skills and sign up for the English Refresher (B2) course at HAN Language Center.

This course is intended for students, HAN staff and external participants. For people who want to improve their English and bring their knowledge to the next level for their work or studies. Your level must be B1 at the start of the course. We assess this with an intake test. Be sure to check the admission requirements.

This course mainly focuses on helping you improve your speaking skills. You will work on:

expanding your vocabulary
improving your pronunciation
improving your grammar

You will also practice:

reading skills
writing skills

The English Refresher (B2) starts on 26 February 2024. The course takes place on Mondays from 18:30-20:30 at the HAN campus in Nijmegen. The next course start date is in September 2024. It will then take place at the HAN campus in Arnhem.

Please note: Are you from outside the EU? HAN does not arrange student visas for candidates of our language courses. You need to arrange your own visa/permit if you wish to stay in the Netherlands.
This course combines classes at the university with self-study. The contact hours are mostly for conversation practice. At home you will work on reading and writing. And get feedback from your trainer on the assignments you did at home. The lecturer will only speak English during class to help you get used to speaking and thinking in English as quickly as possible. You will also be introduced to the most common conversation techniques.
You will receive the following textbook during the course: First Certificate Masterclass. This book is not included in the course fee.
You will end the course with a B2 level CEFR test (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
At the end of the course you are proficient in English at the B2 level. What does that mean? You're an independent language user who can:

understand complex, academic and non-academic texts.

carry on a conversation easily and fluently.

write clear, detailed texts.

discuss current events.

adopt a position in a discussion.

explain the advantages and disadvantages.
Your level at the start of the course is B1. At this level you're comfortable using English in most situations. You can:

understand the main points of standard texts (common work, school, and leisure situations).

write such texts.

discuss and describe opinions, events and ambitions.

We'll check your starting level with an intake test.
