Program

The online course DNA Sequencing - NGS & TGS provides an overview of the sequencing technologies Illumina, Ion Torrent, Nanopore & PacBio. The goal is to understand library preparation, PCR amplification and short- and long-read sequencing. You also learn how sequencing data is processed, visualized and interpreted. Combining theory and practice helps you develop an understanding of the technology and how it is applied in data analysis.
Learning outcomes
- You will gain insight into the principles of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Third Generation Sequencing (TGS);
- You will understand the advantages and limitations of both sequencing technologies;
- You will learn how raw sequencing data are processed;
- You will learn how the results are visualized;
- You will be able to interpret sequencing data.

Topics
The course covers the following topics:
| Day 1 (theory) |
|
| Day 2 (theory) |
|
| Day 3 (practice) |
|
Participants’ own data
On the third day of the course you will be provided with data to work with. You may also bring your own data, provided they meet the requirements specified by the lecturer in class.
Program details
Once you're finished...
... You will have insight into the principles of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Third Generation Sequencing (TGS). You will have deepened your knowledge of the steps involved in processing, visualizing and interpreting data.
