Students positive about studying at HAN
Once again this year, our students are satisfied with many aspects of their studies. This is evident from the results of the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), which 40% of all HAN students participated in.

As in previous years, we scored above average in the areas of atmosphere and safety. In any case, satisfaction with HAN has increased in almost all areas. The survey covers topics such as study coaching, lecturer expertise and the atmosphere and social climate at our institute. See the factsheet with the NSS results for HAN.
Atmosphere and social climate
Students again rated the atmosphere at HAN highly: 4.10 on a scale of 1 to 5. Students also reported feeling safe enough at HAN to be themselves: 4.12. These social aspects are important for student well-being and study success. It’s great to see that we scored highly in these areas, as student welfare is a key focus at HAN.
Guidance from lecturers
On average, students are also satisfied with the content and design of education, its link with professional practice and guidance they receive from lecturers. Students particularly appreciate lecturers' expertise and knowledge of professional practice, as well as their accessibility and open attitude.
But there is also room for improvement, in the area of inspirational guidance; students are less positive about this aspect. This refers to the extent to which students feel challenged and stimulated.
Students also appreciate the availability of study coaching at HAN, as well as its quality. We scored slightly higher than last year, with 3.87 and 3.80, respectively.
Link with professional practice
In the survey, we also ask students about the link between their studies and professional practice. Again, we scored well, slightly higher than last year and above the national average. Specifically, this concerns contact with professional practice (3.77) and gaining skills for professional practice (3.81).
What could be better?
As in 2024, there are items that require attention this year. We call these items "variable themes". The scores are still below 3.5, though they have increased slightly.
- Timetables are still often announced late or are unclear.
- Students feel that the study load could be better spread over the academic year.
- There has been a small increase in flexibility in the study program. Students indicate that they want more freedom in their study program, for example, with electives or an additional internship.
Our degree programs are aware of these issues and include them in educational development policies.
High level of engagement
This year, 40% of HAN students completed the survey. This is a slight decrease from last year but remains well above the national average of 33%. HAN is proud of our students' high level of engagement!
It’s great to hear that satisfaction with HAN has increased in almost all areas. What’s especially important to me is that students feel safe with us and that the atmosphere is positive. Of course, there are also areas where we can improve. For example, we can challenge and inspire students even more. I’m pleased that so many students took the survey once again. The results provide important insights to us as the HAN board every year.

What do we do with the results?
HAN uses the survey results to improve education and programs. They also help us better assist prospective students in choosing a program. The results are compiled into data that is published on Studiekeuze123.nl, where prospective students can compare degree programs. The survey results also form the basis for the annual Keuzegids (National Course Guide).
