Data Protection Authority imposes fine on HAN
In September 2021, HAN was hacked, resulting in a data breach. HAN immediately reported this to the Dutch Data Protection Authority; on 17 December 2025, the Data Protection Authority announced the amount of the fine.
Keuzegids 2026: HAN counts 10 top-rated programs
Ten top-rated degree programs, 14 programs with 4 stars, and a stable position in the national ranking among major universities of applied sciences. These are the highlights from the 2026 Keuzegids hbo program guide for HAN.

Students positive about studying at HAN
Once again this year, our students are satisfied with many aspects of their studies. This is evident from the results of the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), which 40% of all HAN students participated in.
HAN quits X
At HAN University of Applied Sciences, we have decided to quit using X (formerly Twitter) as a communication platform.
HAN joins Open Education Global
HAN has officially joined the international organization Open Education Global (OEGlobal). HAN sees open sharing and (re)use of digital educational resources as an important condition for achieving future-oriented and accessible education. The collaboration with OEGlobal strengthens us in this.
