It's almost time to join us at HAN University of Applied Sciences. We cannot wait to welcome you at our International Welcome Day, in Arnhem on Thursday 25 January and in Nijmegen on Friday 26 January!

Although you do not have to sign up for our International Welcome Day, you may have to sign up for the introduction organized by your study program. Check the introduction webpage of your study program via the link on the bottom of this page.

Arriving at Schiphol Airport

You just landed at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands and cleared customs. You're walking down the big hallways thinking: which way do I go...? Should I go left here? Or perhaps to the right? And where can I buy my train ticket to Arnhem or Nijmegen? Don't worry! Read on for more guidance.

HAN Housing

Did you receive a voucher code from HAN Housing? And booked a room using Book Your Room? You can officially move in as of Wednesday, January 24. If you haven't received any emails from HAN Housing about the voucher code, there is no room reserved for you. In case something is still unclear please contact HAN Housing directly via e-mail.

Registering at City Hall

If your stay in the Netherlands exceeds 4 months, it is mandatory to register as a new citizen with the municipality where you're going to live. Upon registration you'll receive your social security number (in Dutch: BSN nummer). Check the exact procedures for City Hall Arnhem and Nijmegen via the following link.

Setting up your DigiD

DigiD (short for Digital Identification) is an online ID that allows you to arrange matters online with different services and government organizations such as municipalities, the tax office, healthcare providers and other insurance companies. Would you like to apply for a DigiD? Go to the DigiD website! You will need your BSN for your application.

Opening up a Dutch bank account

Some of you may want to open up a Dutch bank account for the time you are here. You can do so at any bank, but the procedures and requirements can differ quite a bit. Read on our Insite (HAN Intranet) how to open a bank account. Please note: to be able to read this you must create your HAN account.

Collecting your Dutch residence permit

Non-EU students need a Dutch residence permit to stay and study legally in the Netherlands. To collect your residence permit, you'll need to go to the Lifeport Welcome Center in Nijmegen. More info, time & location will soon be shared by our Immigration department via email. Check your mailbox!

HAN student ID card

After setting up your HAN account, Bachelor and Master students need to fill in their Dutch address in Studielink to receive their HANCard at their home address in the Netherlands. Exchange students receive their card at HAN. More info can be found on Insite. Please note: to be able to read this you must create your HAN account.

HAN WiFi - Eduroam

Via Eduroam (HAN WiFi) you can safely use the wireless network. In order to use Eduroam, you need to have your HAN account set up. After setting up your HAN account, it's not that difficult to set up your HAN WiFi. Just go to the manuals and follow the instructions! Please note: to be able to read this you must create your HAN account.

Public transport & Biking

Want to use public transport in the Netherlands? The ‘OV-chip card' (In Dutch: OV-chipkaart) is the means of payment for train, bus, tram and metro. It's also possible to buy or rent a bike! Read more on public transport and biking on our Insite page. Please note: to be able to read this you must create your HAN account.

International Student Organizations

Student life is not complete without an international student organization. At campus Arnhem we have the International Student Association (ISA). At campus Nijmegen there is the Erasmus Student Network Nijmegen (ESN). Please note: to be able to read this you must create your HAN account.
