We cordially invite you to join us for an afternoon program on 14 November, where we will discuss major issues in the energy transition followed by the inauguration of Shima Mousavi Gargari as Professor Reliable Power Supply by special appointment at the HAN Research Group Balanced Energy Systems.

The energy transition represents a monumental shift in how we generate and consume power. Achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement requires a systemic approach to the challenges of the energy transition. At HAN University of Applied Sciences, the Research Group Balanced Energy Systems focuses on a sustainable, reliable and affordable energy system for the future.

Shima will focus in her role within the HAN Research Group Balanced Energy Systems on asset management. Her inauguration speech is therefore titled:

Professor by Special Appointment
 

Shima Mousavi Gargari

Shima Mousavi Gargari is Corporate Innovation Manager at TenneT Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Professor by Special Appointment at HAN University of Applied Sciences. She received her PhD in electrical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. In 2013, she joined the Asset Management Unit of TenneT TSO, where she worked as asset specialist and asset strategist. In early 2023, she joined the Strategy and Partnership Units as innovation manager, where she is responsible for strategic innovation projects with key links to universities, peers and market parties.

Two of the research group’s Associate Professors, Carolien Kattenbelt and Leo Polak, will lead you through the afternoon program and tell you more about the activities of the research group and the role of grid congestion, power quality and hydrogen.

Carolien leads the research line on Futureproof Electrical Infrastructure. She focuses on system integration, taking into account both technical and non-technical aspects. The program track addresses the societal issues of net congestion and power quality, which are investigated for specific multimodal use cases by optimizing topologies, sizing and energy management. She also takes the role of task lead for system integration in the leading national Hy-Succes consortium and is part of the Human Capital Agenda East-Netherlands liaison team for GroenvermogenNL

Leo Polak

Leo leads the research line on Engineering Hydrogen Systems, in which the group works on characterization, integration and control of electrochemical stacks and balance of plant components, as well as on techno-economic, safety and regulation studies. The dissemination of the associated knowledge and experience into education is an important part of all the activities of the research line, which takes shape in the Hydrogen Technology Theme Route for the bachelor programs and the Hydrogen Technology module within the Master Engineering Systems.

The aim of the Research Group Balanced Energy Systems is to find solutions and improve the sustainability, reliability and affordability of energy systems during the transition. The Research Group is part of the School of Engineering and Automotive and works closely together with:

As professor by special appointment, Shima Mousavi Gargari, is part of a long-term strategic partnership from HAN University of Applied Sciences with high-voltage grid operator TenneT. Together, they are committed to a sustainable and reliable energy future. Through joint research, education, knowledge exchange and innovation, they work to strengthen the electricity grid and optimise energy solutions.

SEECE

The energy transition requires a multidisciplinary approach. As a public-private partnership, SEECE focuses on three transitions needed for this: in learning and development, in social cooperation and in technology. Research and innovation are essential for this. HAN and TenneT are both key partners in SEECE. They work together towards a sustainable and reliable energy system.
