Digital educational resources

At HAN, we want students and educators to have easy access to high-quality educational resources. This way, educators and students can create their ideal mix of educational resources, drawing from open, semi-open and commercial sources. We also develop our own educational resources and share them openly whenever possible. In doing so, we put knowledge in motion and help advance education.

What do we mean?

Open digital educational resources

Digital educational resources include anything used in education that’s available in digital form - such as presentations, videos, images and e-learning videos.

Open educational resources are free to use, adapt and share. They make collaboration and innovation a lot easier.

HAN's has high ambitions when it comes to digital educational resources. In 6 key statements, we outline where we aim to go:

Educational strategy and policy

At HAN, we recognize the value of open digital educational resources in education. That’s why we actively promote their use in the classroom. We support educators and students in making smart use of these resources and contribute to developing clear agreements and guidelines to facilitate their use.

Culture and professional development

We highlight the importance of digital educational resources and what they contribute to quality education. We invest in the growth and development of our staff – and encourage them to continue growing. Those who innovate with digital educational resources receive the recognition they deserve from us.

Organization

We organize things well behind the scenes to ensure that staff and students can easily use and share digital educational resources.

Technology and infrastructure

At HAN, educators and students use a user-friendly digital platform. that allows them to compile their own mix of educational resources – all conveniently in one place.

Economic and financial accessibility

We actively encourage educators and students to use open educational resources. Where necessary, HAN covers licensing costs to ensure that everyone has access to the information they need.

Legal frameworks and regulations

We keep our publication policy up to date and transparent. We also make clear agreements with suppliers about intellectual property rights, privacy, standards and data ownership.

In Phase 1 (2023-2024), we established key prerequisites such as a vision, policies and the necessary professional development.

In phase 2 (2025-2026) we will focus on organizing support, professional development and the technical infrastructure surrounding the digital educational resources cycle. By 2025, three startups will also have begun developing open educational resources.

HAN builds its technical infrastructure, professional development programs and support systems based on this cycle.
To create good professional development offerings, it’s important to first define the knowledge and competences educators need to work with digital educational resources. That’s why we’ve created the HAN Competency Framework for Open Educational Resources (in Dutch).
How do we get educators to actually work with and continue working with open digital educational resources? The "Recognition and Reward Model (in Dutch)" motivates staff to work with digital and open educational resources by fostering motivation, engagement and visibility of results.
The Digital Educational Resources Quality Model offers guidelines for assessing the quality of digital educational resources. It supports educators in creating and sharing high-quality educational resources.
