Language course — Dutch B1

The Dutch B1 course starts at September 4 2023. The course lasts for 15 weeks and takes place during the day at the HAN campus in Arnhem. You will have 3 classes of 3 hours a week. The exact schedule will be discussed with you during your intake process. 

To maintain the quality, the groups will have no more than 20 students.

During class, you practice your listening and speaking skills and complete various exercises. The teacher gives you feedback on these exercises. You also get homework to help you improve your reading and writing skills and your grammar and vocabulary. You can also do your homework at the HAN study and multimedia center. You spend about 15-20 hours a week on self-study. 

During the course you use the textbook Nederlands in Actie. This book is included in the course fee. 

The course ends with a test at the B1 level. Did you reach the level? Then you receive a certificate. This allows you to continue with the following course. 

We offer a series of 4 courses. You can also take one or more separate courses. The first 3 courses help you reach the level required of the NT2 State Exam, program II (B2). The 4th course helps you reach C1 level. The Dutch B1 language course is the 2nd course in the series. It helps you achieve language level B1. 

At language level B1, you understand the main points of standard texts. Think of subjects that occur often at work, school or in your free time. You can also write such texts. And you can discuss and describe opinions, events and ambitions. You’re comfortable using Dutch in most situations. 

Have you successfully completed the A2 course? Or do you have a certificate showing you have the A2 level? Are you willing to spend around 25 hours per week (3 daytime lessons per week + self-study) on learning Dutch? Then sign up for our Dutch B1 course. This course starts at level A2. You work towards level B1 in 15 weeks. After signing up you receive an invitation for an intake interview. After the intake, we determine which level you can start at. We then finalize your registration. 

Approved? Then you receive a letter with the maximum loan amount.

1. Complete the online registration form.
2. In the "comments" section, mention that you are paying with a DUO loan. You receive an automatic confirmation of registration. Your registration is not yet final.

You will receive an email invitation for the intake interview.

Make sure to bring the following with you:

• DUO letter
• Your diplomas
• Your ID or residence permit
• Certificates from other language courses

The interview may be held in English or Dutch. You can bring someone with you to the interview. We discuss the following with you:

• Do you fit our target group? If not, we refer you to a different language provider.
• Your Duo letter.
• Your entry level.
• The most suitable course to help you prepare for the NT2 State Exam (programme II). And how long we think it will take.

We document your course preference in a course contract. This contract is subject to the general terms and conditions for Dutch courses offered by HAN Language Center. Your registration is complete when you sign the course contract.

At the end of the course you sign the digital invoice of HAN Language Centre. This invoice will be available on the DUO website, under "Mijn Inburgering".

Please note!
What if DUO does not pay the invoice directly to the Language Center? Then you have to pay all costs yourself. In installments if needed.
