Opening, Healthcare and leadership
Let's open the week together with students, the organisation and chair of the HAN Executive Board Rob Verhofstad. The first guest speaker is professor Diederik Gommers. He runs the intensive care department at Erasmus Medical Center. Until February 2022, he served as the chair of the Dutch Association for Intensive Care (NVIC) and as prominent member of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT). Diederik is an expert in healthcare, science and leadership.
Culture meets Effectiveness
In times of economization and bureaucratization, how can we create a positive culture in the health system? A culture in which we enjoy working, and which offers a healthy environment for us as healthcare workers and our patients? Every single person in the community is a cultural factor. How can we identify this potential and cultivate our work environment towards health? This workshop aims to encourage you to become an active culture developer in health care institutions.

Community Case Management
Kim is a lecturer of Nursing. In many parts of the world, the demand for healthcare exceeds the capacity of the healthcare system. This problem is caused by things like a lack of doctors and nurses, as well as long travel distances healthcare facilities. It poses a significant risk to vulnerable population groups, such as children under the age of five. Despite being easily and cheaply treatable, pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria remain the leading causes of child death. Community Case Management (CCM) is a method of providing healthcare through local volunteers without a medical background. They can help diagnose and treat the most common childhood diseases and reduce child mortality. Using practical examples from South Sudan, Kim will discuss CCM and how it is applied.
Serial Killers and their crimes
Have you ever wondered why someone commits murder? What drives them to stalk and kill their victims? In this presentation, Tracey Robinson examines several known American serial killers who have been identified, captured, and processed through the legal system. The focus is on the psychology of the killer, the investigative and legal processes used, and the public's fascination with such crimes and criminals. Tracey is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in forensic psychology.

Social action in pandemic times
Loneliness has become sickness number one in our cities. We all suffer from the effects of individualism, and at the same time we fight as social atoms for our personal rights. Our politicians warn us about polarization. We are classified as masses of individuals that are opposed to one another. Has the pandemic created something new in our societies or did it just bring something hidden to the surface? In this lecture Tina redefines the role of social work in this age of loneliness and polarization. In order to do so we must move from Social Work to SocialAction in order to give in to the core of our call as social actors.
